FAIRY TALE WITH LIVE-PERFORMED SOUNDTRACK BY JAN HAMMER, SUNG
LIVE BY BERENIKA KOHOUTOVÁ AND JAN CINA

As every Sunday afternoon at the International Festival of Film Music and
Multimedia SOUNDTRACK Poděbrady, we are again drawing up a special large-
format screening of one traditional Czech fairy tale, this time perhaps the
funniest one: The Incredibly Sad Princess directed by Bořivoj Zeman. An
unforgettable soundtrack, treacherous advisers, popular bon mots and above all,
one of the most famous fairy tale love couples – Helena Vondráčková and Václav
Neckář. Look forward to another large-format fairy tale screening with live
soundtrack performance, accompanied by the singers Berenika Kohoutová and
Jan Cina.

The 1968 storyline magically refers to a fairy tale of the same name that every
little child knows, only the King never read it. Yet, he projects Charlie Chaplin's
grotesques or performs executions he never really completes. The Princess is
feignedly incredibly sad and the power-hungry advisers try their very best to
start a war, but everything goes well at the end! What do you think – will the
Princess marry the prince who is half a head smaller than her?
The songs were composed by only 17-year-old Jan Hammer, who originally could
not be featured in the closing credits due to his emigration to the US. His music
will be brought alive by the composer and conductor Kryštof Marek. Berenika
Kohoutová and Jan Cina will sing the main parts, accompanied with a chamber
orchestra. They both play the leading roles in the Studio DVA Theater in Prague
and their performance promises a good acting, too.

As lyrics of one of the songs says, let yourselves get trapped and surprised on
1/9 by a number of well-known guests who are inherently tied to this popular
fairy tale.
